John Prasad Menezes is a Master Mariner, Marine Consultant, Expert Witness and a practicing Maritime Arbitrator.
He is now focusing on full-time Maritime Arbitration in India and the Asian region. John has a holistic knowledge of Shipping, Port, and the Offshore Industry. Practicing Maritime Arbitrator since 2013. Sole Arbitrator, Member of the Tribunal and President of Tribunal from 2013 to 2026 in over 10 arbitral matters. Mediator in a Salvage settlement and Expert Witness including Court Commissioner since 1992.
As former Independent Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., (MRPL) Mangalore, has guided the legal department in International Arbitrations at LCIA, London which were settled midway. Former Independent Director of Seven Island Shipping Limited, Mumbai during its growth stages.
As member of the IMO Sub-Committee, Nautical Institute, London (2009-2012) and later Vice Chairman
(2012-2016), a working knowledge of the IMO was gained.
After 15 years of sailing experience in ascending capacities from Cadet to Master on General Cargo,
Containers, Ro-Ro and Bulk Carrier Vessels in worldwide trading, John came ashore to be engaged as an independent Ship Surveyor and Flag State Inspector. During the 36 years of shore experience, he has handled various types of Admiralty Surveys namely: CTL, Collision, General Average, Salvage, Grounding, Fire, Pollution, Towage, and Wreck Removal.
As Flag State Inspector for LISCR and Bahamas Maritime Authority, carried out numerous Safety and MLC Inspections, ISM, ISPS, IHM Audits on different ships including FPSOs, MODUs, Cruise Liners, Tankers, Bulk Carriers, Container Vessels etc. beside Casualty Investigations for Flag Administration have been accomplished.
