Capt. Milind Karkhanis has over 40 years of experience in the maritime industry, he has an up to date knowledge of the shipping rules and regulations e.g. SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, Load Line, MLC 2006, etc. Well versed on how these should be interpreted and practically applied with regards to compliance requirements related to the operational and technical aspects of running the ships. He closely monitors the advice contained in the publications and circulars issued by the PNI Clubs and the Classification Societies. 

He started his sea career in 1978 and sailed for 15 years progressing from Cadet to Master on a variety of ships such as Tankers, OBO, Bulk Carriers, Container and Geared Cargo ships.  In 1993, he moved ashore worked as a Marine Superintendent, surveyor and ISM In-charge with a leading classification society - American Bureau of Shipping. Thereafter he worked as in-charge of the Operations, Security, Safety and Quality with a leading ship management company having 48 ships, with MOL Tokyo as its principal. From 2005 to 2017, he was based in London and worked for Videotel, a leading maritime training provider. At Videotel, his expertise was utilised in monitoring latest regulations introduced by the IMO and other regulatory bodies and developing training programmes related to the ship’s safety, operation, technical and other loss prevention matters. 

He has over 25 years of experience in being involved in marine claims and in constructing robust responses on wet and dry claims such as, collision - ship handling, technical operational management, safe port, Bills of lading, Charter Party, COA, ship building, ship sale and purchase contracts and salvage. 

In 2017 he moved to Dubai and set up a marine consultancy company. He now frequents between London and Dubai. He has been appointed as arbitrator and published awards under the LMAA and SCMA rules.

Capt. Karkhanis is available for Arbitration and Expert Witness appointments on wet and dry shipping disputes.
