Donald is a partner in the Litigation Department of Reed Smith Richards Butler LLP.

Donald has extensive experience in handling a wide range of shipping disputes including international trade and commodity, charterparties, ship sale and purchase, bills of lading and cargo claims.

The Legal 500 ranks Donald as a “Rising Star” in 2021 and a “Next Generation Partner” in 2022 in International Arbitration in Hong Kong and lauds him as “very impressive, very professional, and very responsive” and that he “is very familiar with arbitration and litigation procedure and provides clear and commercial advice”. He is also recommended by Doyle’s Guide 2021 as one of the Leading Admiralty, Maritime & Shipping Lawyers in Hong Kong.

Donald is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators (FHKIArb) and a Member of the Hong Kong Maritime Arbitration Group (HKMAG). He is on the list of arbitrators of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Hong Kong Maritime Arbitration Group(HKMAG), China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC) and Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA). He is the current Secretary of the Hong Kong Maritime Law Association (HKMLA).

Donald has been serving as a member of the Maritime Services Training Board (MSTB) of the Vocational Training Council (VTC) as appointed by the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government. In addition, he was appointed by the Department of Law of The University of Hong Kong as a Lecturer in the Master of Laws (Arbitration & Dispute Resolution) Programme from 2017 to 2020.

Donald is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
