Capt. John Prasad Menezes

John Prasad Menezes is a Master Mariner, Marine Consultant, Expert Witness and a practising Maritime Arbitrator.
 
He is now focusing on full-time Maritime Arbitration in India and the Asian region.

John has a holistic knowledge of Shipping, Port, and the Offshore Industry.  Having appeared as an Expert Witness from 1990 he continues rendering this service to date.  Has been a member of the Tribunal to a Towage Claim, Sole Arbitrator of a Southern Ocean Expedition on Re-delivery of Vessel and Presiding Arbitrator for an Asba Tankvoy LPG Vessel Demurrage and interest claim.  He has coordinated and assisted in legal matters handling and following up various claims to logical conclusions for P & I Associations, Ship Owners and other interests.

As former Independent Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., (MRPL) Mangalore, has guided the legal department in an International Arbitration at LCIA, London which was settled midway.

As member of the IMO Sub-Committee, Nautical Institute, London (2009-2012) and later Vice Chairman (2012-2016), a working knowledge of the IMO was gained.

After 15 years of sailing experience in ascending capacities from Cadet to Master on General Cargo, Containers, Ro-Ro and Bulk Carrier Vessels in worldwide trading, John came ashore to be engaged as an independent Ship Surveyor and Flag State Inspector.  During the 28 years of shore experience, he has handled various types of Admiralty Surveys namely: CTL, Collision, Salvage, Grounding, Fire, Pollution, Towage, and Wreck Removal.

As Flag State Inspector for LISCR and Bahamas Maritime Authority, numerous Safety Inspections, ISM, ISPS MLC Audits on different ships including FPSOs, MODU, Cruise Liners, Tankers, Bulk Carriers, Container Vessels etc. beside  Casualty Investigations for Flag Administration have been accomplished.

John now serves as Chairman of Nautical Institute, India SW Branch, Kochi and Executive Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, East India Branch.

Served as Trustee of the New Mangalore Port Trust for the period 2007-2009 and was the President of South Kanara District Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2006-2007.
